Local Area Information
Lilac Cottage is situated between the villages of Govilon and Gilwern and is about 3 miles outside vibrant Abergavenny, the Gateway to the Brecon Beacons. It is walking distance to the local pub and both the picturesque and peaceful Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal and the white waters of the River Usk. You can walk to the top of Blorenge or along the lower part of the Clydach Gorge from the door. Lilac Cottage is situated on a no-through lane and cycle path yet is easily accessible via the nearby Heads of the Valleys Road.
From the cottage garden and windows, there are views of both Blorenge and Sugar Loaf. These mountains offer a multitude of walks and incredibly varied scenery. The local area is an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise and also has a lot to offer those who enjoy good food! We particularly recommend a canal-side walk (20 mins) to the Towpath Inn for pre-dinner drinks and/or homemade pizza in their outdoor pizza oven. Alternatively, for a real gastropub treat (at reasonable prices) why don't you visit the newly refurbished (2022) Bluebell Inn by the River Usk in Glangrywney (a pleasant 30 minute walk or 5 minute drive).
The nearby towns of Abergavenny and Crickhowell have a selection of shops and a wide variety of places to eat.
